Uniform Guidance

On Dec 26, 2013 the federal Office of Management & Budget (OMB) issued 2 CFR 200 Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards; Final Rule, which provides new guidelines for federal grant management. These new guidelines are being referred to as Uniform Guidance and the new guidelines replace the Circulars OMB A-21, A-110, and A-133. The new Uniform Guidance applies to all funding received after Dec 26, 2014, including both new projects and incremental funding on existing projects.

The changes associated with Uniform Guidance have the potential to be significant and each federal funding agency had been charged with releasing their implementation regulations for review by June 26, 2014. Universities then need to work through those agency regulations and determine specific impacts and necessary internal policy changes. To date not all agencies have released their implementation plans.

Michigan Tech has formed a Uniform Guidance Steering Committee to direct the review process. The committee consists of:

  • Joanne Polzien
  • Larry Sutter

A number of Task Groups were formed to analyze each specific part of the Uniform Guidance and recommend the policy changes required for Michigan Tech to comply with the new regulations.
